Trail Ridge Ride

Event date:
Sun, 08/10/2025 - 10:00am

Trail Ridge Ride and Picnic   Saturday 8/10 and Tuesday 8/12 WWRP ride.

Bring your National Parks Pass and join us for a ride over Scenic Trail Ridge Road through Rocky Mountain National Park.  It is the highest continuous paved road in the good old USA, taking us to 12,183 feet of elevation.  If you lack a National Parks Pass, come anyway, and the DCH will treat you to entrance into the Park.

The ride will leave from AHD, take US-40 west as much as possible to the top of Floyd Hill.  Then, we will take I-70 towards Empire.  Back on US-40, we will traverse Berthod Pass, dropping into Winter Park's Hideaway Park for a quick relief stop.  US-40 will take us to Granby, where we turn onto US-34 for a ride along Lake Granby and Shadow Mountain Reservoir to Grand Lake,

We will picnic at Grand Lake Town Park.  Bring your lunch.  Grand Lake has several eateries nearby.

After lunch, the ride takes us into Rocky Mountain National Park and over Trail Ridge Rd.   No timed entrance pass is needed since we will enter after 2 pm. Photos, souvenirs, and restrooms are at the Alpine Visitor's Center.

Back on the bike, we crest the ridge and coast down to Estes Park for a quick gas/bio stop (135 miles) if needed.  The route takes us back via May's favorite ride, the Peak to Peak Hwy and Golden Gate Canyon Road to Golden and the dealership.
